Contraceptive Implant (Implanon NXT) Training for Doctors
Course Outline
The Contraceptive Implant (Implanon NXT) Training for Doctors is an interactive session, incorporating theoretical instruction and simulated practical application.
Participants will:
- engage with theory training regarding counselling and assessment prior to inserting the contraceptive implant
- develop an understanding of administration of local anaesthetic, insertion and removal procedures, and management of complications
- demonstrate practical skills with simulated training on model arms
- learn about the management of complications and bleeding changes with Long Acting Reversible Contraceptives.
Enrolment Options
The Contraceptive Implant (Implanon NXT) Training has two main options for enrolment: Face-to-Face and Hybrid.
Face-to-Face Course – Onsite 2-hour theory workshop and simulation training.
Hybrid Course – Online theory module (must be completed prior to simulation training) and 1-hour onsite simulation training.
If you are enrolling in the Hybrid course, please select the appropriate date for the face-to-face simulation workshop. Information on your online theory modules will be sent post-enrolment.

Online Course for Rural and Remote SA Practitioners
Rural and remote SA doctors are now able to apply for an online adaptation of the Contraceptive Implant (Implanon NXT) Training.
This course will only be open to doctors who work predominantly within a rural zone (Modified Monash Model 3 to 5, check classification here: Health Workforce Locator).
Cost: $225 + $50 refundable deposit for a simulation training pack.
Simulation equipment for this course is provided by the manufacturer of Implanon NXT (Organon).
