Teaching It Like It Is — Secondary

Learn how to teach comprehensive relationships and sexual health education to secondary years in a safe and inclusive environment.

Our 2-day course, facilitated by experienced educators, will examine what makes a comprehensive relationships and sexual health program for secondary years. The course will explore the skills and resources needed to teach within SHINE SA’s Principles of Best Practice.

Course Outline

The course covers a range of resources and curriculum outlines, all mapped to the Australian Curriculum and Department for Education Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum.

Participants will:

  • explore topics and issues to cover in a comprehensive relationships and sexual health program for secondary students
  • identify up-to-date sexual health information and statistics
  • engage with practical learning activities and teaching methods
  • develop facilitation skills and strategies for discussing sensitive issues
  • acquire a range of resources and a curriculum outline that are mapped to the Australian Curriculum and the Department for Education’s Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum

 

Recognition

Participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance that references the relevant Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.

Course Details

The course is tailored to school staff working with secondary years students including teachers and SSOs. However, this course has no pre-requisite and is open to all interested.

Course Cost

$495 for Department for Education staff

$640 for non-government school/other organisation staff

$330 for pre-service teachers
