Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence (FDSV) Counselling Service for LGBTIQA+ People

SHINE SA’s With Respect FDSV Counselling Service provides free professional and specialised counselling and support for LGBTIQA+ people who have been impacted by family, domestic or sexual violence.  

This service is available to:

Anyone over 16 years old in South Australia from LGBTIQA+ communities who has experienced – or is currently experiencing – family, domestic, or sexual violence. 

Our service offers: 

  • Trauma-informed counselling provided by counsellors with specialist training in FDSV support
  • Information and referrals to additional services.

How do I access this service?

This service is free and you don’t need a referral to access this service.

Contact SHINE SA on 8300 5300 and ask to book an appointment to see our With Respect counsellor.

This service is located at SHINE SA Woodville on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and alternate Fridays.

This service is also located at SHINE SA Hyde Street Practice, Adelaide on Tuesdays 9:00 am – 5:00pm, by appointment only.  

We can assist you with:

  • Managing the impact of family, domestic, or sexual violence
  • Therapeutic counselling
  • Communicating with supporters
  • Creating safety plans
  • Connecting with further support services.

What issues can we support? 

  • Questioning how safe your relationship feels
  • Intimate Partner Violence/coercion – current or historical
  • Family Violence – current or historical
  • Rape, sexual assault or coercion
  • Feeling unsafe in your relationship
  • Feeling unsafe with family
  • Religious abuse due to LGBTIQA+ identity
  • Identity based abuse – not limited to but including fear of being outed, suppression of identity within family
  • Trauma responses including intrusive memories, nightmares, difficulty sleeping, hyper-vigilance, fight, flight, freeze, appease/ fawn, flop
  • Feeling out of control or feeling unable to make decisions about their relationship.

Meet our Counsellor 

Tiffany (she /her) 

Tiffany has recently joined the SHINE SA team as counsellor for the With Respect Counselling Service for LGBTIQA+ people who have experienced family, domestic and sexual violence (FDSV). Tiffany is a social worker and counsellor with 25 years’ experience working with the LGBTIQA+ community and specialising in working with trauma caused by violence and abuse. Tiffany uses a trauma-informed approach to her work and is committed to supporting people to recover from trauma.

Tiffany identifies as a member of the LGBTIQA+ community and is interested in increasing the visibility of the impact FDSV on the LGBTIQA+ community.

Tiffany has a Bachelor of Health Science and a Masters of Social Work. Tiffany has also trained in Narrative Therapy, ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), CBT, Trauma therapy and Family Centred Practice.
