Let’s Talk About Sexual Health: Aboriginal Focus

The Let’s Talk About Sexual Health: Aboriginal Focus is a 2-day course for people who work directly with Aboriginal people and wish to improve their sexual and reproductive health knowledge and address sexual and reproductive health and relationship issues within Aboriginal communities.

Course Outline

On completion of this course, you will:

  • have an increased level of confidence working with Aboriginal communities in the area of sexual health
  • have a better understanding of cultural/community sensitivities and how to engage clients in the topic of sexual health
  • understand the impacts of colonisation and generational trauma
  • be able to identify the sexual health issues faced by Aboriginal people
  • have a better understanding of the reasons behind disproportionate overrepresentation experienced by Aboriginal people in various health-related statistics
  • be introduced to new sexual health language and skills to improve client/worker relationships
  • develop skills to yarn with clients about their sexual health needs
  • identify appropriate Aboriginal sexual health resources.

Eligibility

This course is only suitable for people who work directly with Aboriginal people or are undertaking studies with an Aboriginal focus. This could include youth workers, community sector workers, health workers, social workers, educators, or anyone who works directly with Aboriginal people.

At SHINE SA there is zero tolerance for any acts of racism. If casual racism does occur throughout the duration of the course, you will be kindly asked to leave.
