Pregnancy Choices Training

Learn how to provide support and information through a greater understanding of pregnancy choices. This 2-day training explores the options available to people experiencing pregnancy.

It will cover the issues and topics that people may experience when choosing whether or not to continue their pregnancy.
Presented by SHINE SA and will include a variety of guest speakers that are experts in their field.

Course Outline

The course covers the broad social and political issues as well as clinical options, incorporating cultural considerations into topics and resources.

Participants will:

  • discuss the social and political context of unintended pregnancy and choices
  • consider the cultural implications of unintended pregnancy including an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspective as well as a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse perspective
  • learn about family and domestic violence and reproductive coercion in the context of unintended pregnancy
  • develop further knowledge on surrogacy, assisted fertility and contraception
  • explore a broader understanding of adoption, abortion, genetic counselling, perinatal mental health, young parenting and counselling responses to unintended pregnancy

Eligibility

The course is open to nurses, midwives, doctors, counsellors, community health workers, school counsellors, youth workers, Aboriginal Health Workers and any professional who may work with clients who are pregnant.
