Contraceptive Implant (Implanon NXT) Train the Trainer Program

SHINE SA’s Train the Trainer program supports practitioners to become a credentialed Contraceptive Implant (Implanon NXT) Trainer.

Becoming a Contraceptive Implant Trainer is an opportunity to deepen your sexual and reproductive health knowledge while building your skills in education, training, and clinical supervision.

This course is designed for South Australian health practitioners who:

  • Have extensive experience in sexual and reproductive health

  • Have at least 12 months of clinical experience inserting and/or removing Implanon NXT

  • (Recommended) Have experience in training or education—though this is not essential.

You’ll learn how to train other practitioners using the latest evidence-based guidelines on contraceptive implant use, including insertion, removal, side effect management, and complication care. Training is delivered in line with Implanon NXT Training Recommendations for Health Care Professionals.

You will also gain practical skills in:

  • Teaching and supervising health professionals

  • Facilitating learning in clinical settings

  • Providing feedback and assessment.
Note: Practitioners who perform insertions only may be eligible to train others in insertion alone.

Course Format

This blended program includes both online and face-to-face components:

  • Online learning: 1.5 hours of self-paced content via SHINE SA’s online learning platform
