Teaching It Like It Is — Secondary

Learn how to teach comprehensive relationships and sexual health education to secondary years (covering Years 7-10) in a safe and inclusive environment.

Our 2-day course, facilitated by experienced educators, will examine what makes a comprehensive relationships and sexual health program for secondary years.

You’ll learn how to apply SHINE SA’s Principles of Best Practice, while using curriculum-aligned materials mapped to the Australian Curriculum and the Department for Education’s Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum.

 

In this course, participants will:

  • Explore key topics and issues to include in a comprehensive relationships and sexual health program for secondary students

  • Learn current sexual health and relationship information

  • Practice hands-on learning activities and effective teaching methods

  • Build skills and strategies for facilitating sensitive conversations

  • Receive a variety of resources and curriculum guides aligned with the Australian Curriculum and the Department for Education’s Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum

Resources

Participants will receive SHINE SA curriculum resources (including the resource booklets featured below) and associated PowerPoints.

 

Recognition

Participants will receive a certificate of achievement and recognition of training and development hours with reference to relevant Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.

Course Details

The course is designed for all school-based staff working with secondary years students including teachers, leaders and SSOs.

However, this course has no pre-requisite and is open to all interested.

Course Cost

$600 for Department for Education staff

$780 for non-government school/other organisation staff

$400 for pre-service teachers

Invoice for payment may be negotiated. This will incur an additional $50.00 fee per invoice.
