Participants will develop practical teaching strategies and clinical supervision skills, including how to:
1. Online Learning (Predisposing Activity): An interactive IUD theory module, covering types of IUDs, counselling and assessment consultation, IUD insertion, post-insertion counselling, IUD removal and management of complications.
This module must be completed before attending the face-to-face workshop.
2. Practical Workshop (Approx 2 hours): Delivered by an experienced trainer, the workshop includes:
3. Training Delivery
Following successful completion of the theory and workshop components, participants are required to train another medical practitioner in IUD insertion to achieve certification as a Trainer. Participants will receive a training log and clinical guidelines to support this process.
Clinical training can take place at either the trainer’s or trainee’s practice. Please note: SHINE SA does not facilitate the clinical training component.
Once the training log is completed and submitted, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion as an accredited IUD Trainer.

SHINE SA is offering full scholarships for primary healthcare workers working in regional and rural SA to complete our IUD Insertion Train the Trainer Program — at no cost to you.
Scholarships cover full course fees and accommodation for participants from regional and rural South Australia.

Application for IUD Insertion Train the Trainer Program is applied for on the assumption of the above and enrolment is at the discretion of SHINE SA’s Medical Lead for Long-Acting Reversible Contraception.
Upon completion, participants will be fully equipped to train and mentor other clinicians in safe, evidence-based IUD insertion in the community – contributing to the expansion of accessible reproductive health services across South Australia.
