The predisposing activity involves completion of an online IUD theory course. This is an interactive online training program with information on IUD types, pre and post IUD insertion assessment and management of IUD complications.
The online component must be completed prior to a practical workshop (approx. 2 hours), this involves reviewing current guidelines on IUD insertion and training requirements. The workshop will also involve discussing practical considerations required for teaching IUD insertion in general practice. Case studies and role plays will be utilised to facilitate training situations and reflect on current clinical practice.
On completion of the theory component and workshop, trainers will go on to train another medical practitioner in IUD insertion to receive full certification from SHINE SA.
Relevant guidelines and a comprehensive training log will be provided to document the trainees IUD insertion experience as well as provide proof of training. Clinical training can be undertaken either in the trainer’s practice or the trainee’s practice.
