Extended Skills General Practice Registrar – Sexual Health
Are you looking to expand your clinical skills in a specialised area of General Practice while making a meaningful contribution to community health?
SHINE SA is seeking applications from GP Registrars interested in undertaking an Extended Skills Placement in Sexual Health within South Australia’s leading sexual and reproductive health service.
This unique training opportunity provides hands-on experience in sexual and reproductive healthcare, STI and BBV management, HIV prevention, contraception, and working with diverse communities and priority populations. Registrars will be supported by experienced Sexual Health Physicians, GP Supervisors and a multidisciplinary team committed to excellence in patient care.
What You’ll Gain Experience In
- STI and blood-borne virus testing, treatment and prevention
- HIV prevention, including PrEP and PEP
- Sexual and reproductive healthcare
- Contraception counselling and prescribing
- Contraceptive implant and IUD procedures
- Public health and multidisciplinary models of care
- Providing inclusive, evidence-based care to diverse populations
To Be Successful in This Role, You Will:
- Be enrolled in an approved GP training pathway (or vocationally registered)
- Be eligible for an Extended Skills Placement in Sexual Health
- Hold current AHPRA registration
- Have completed a Certificate in Sexual and Reproductive Health or equivalent
- Demonstrate a commitment to inclusive, evidence-based, person-centred care

- Evidence of AHPRA registration
Successful applicants will be required to complete the Certificate in Sexual and Reproductive Health, including the clinical placement component (or an approved interstate equivalent), and Implanon NXT insertion training prior to commencement. These courses are arranged and funded by the Registrar.
IUD training may be available during the placement, subject to availability.
