The Group Norms Cards activity is used to establish group norms, this helps to create a learning space that is respectful by acknowledging personal boundaries and demonstrating respectful language and behaviour.
Setting up group norms enables inappropriate language and behaviour to be addressed.
The activity involves asking participants to place cards under headings ‘Positive/Deadly’ if it supports a safe learning space, or ‘Negative/Not Deadly’ if it does not support a safe learning space. Participants can then be invited as a group to question or move cards with the aim of getting a consensus (everyone/most agreeing with the placement of the cards).
