READINESS: Doctors are required to be at a high level of experience/training to do this training as SHINE SA views IUD insertions at the highest skill end of sexual health practice. Before commencing this training, doctors should be very experienced in contraceptive counselling, IUD assessments, management of IUD problems, and have well developed bimanual pelvic examination skills as assessing the lie of the uterus is fundamental. Generally this would mean you have undertaken a FPAA Certificate in Reproductive & Sexual Health or a RANZCOG certificate or diploma, or have extensive experience in sexual health and gynaecology.
