Webinar: The A-Z of Sexual and Gender Diversity – For Parents/Carers

This webinar for parents/carers will discuss sexual and gender diversity and the importance of representation to young people.

This webinar will provide parents/carers an opportunity to explore information around sexual and gender diversity (i.e. LGBTIQA+ communities). It will provide an understanding of the different ways young people experience sexual and gender diversity in their lives and what supports are available.

 

Course Outline

What is Relationships & Sexual Health education?

The purpose of Relationships & Sexual Health (R&SH) education is to empower children and young people to make informed, safe, responsible and healthy decisions. This is achieved through learning and development of lifelong skills and the exploration of values.

SHINE SA recognises and respects the importance of family as a source of R&SH information, education and values.

In this webinar our educators will discuss the SHINE SA R&SH Curriculum and explain more about the services, resources and support available to children, young people and parents/carers.

 

What is covered in this webinar?

During this webinar you will:

  • learn more about the Focus Area of Relationships and Sexuality in the Health and Physical Education Australian Curriculum
  • explore the terminology around sexual and gender diversity
  • explore the Department for Education’s sexual and gender diversity policies and procedures
  • explore some tips for talking with children and young people about diversity
  • identify wellbeing support services in the Adelaide metropolitan area
  • discuss topics and questions in a safe space
