Note: Nurses, midwives, and Aboriginal Health Practitioners must register for one of the clinical training options to be able to become cervical screening providers. The theory-only option can be selected as a refresher for current Cervical Screening Providers or for education purposes only.
Medical practitioners/GPs may elect to complete the theory-only but may also benefit from completing the clinical component.

The clinical component involves the development and successful assessment of clinical skills and competencies.
This includes a minimum of five unassisted clinician collected cervical screening tests under the supervision of a Cervical Screening Preceptor and recommendation for approval as a Cervical Screening Provider by your Preceptor.
This can occur either through clinical placement at SHINE SA (limited places) or with a SHINE SA approved Preceptor in your workplace.
Participants completing their clinical placement at SHINE SA will be offered a full day or two half days of clinical training. Participants must provide evidence of Professional Indemnity Insurance (PII) and current Child Related Employment screening to undertake their training at SHINE SA.
Nurses, midwives and medical practitioners with a minimum of two years’ experience in cervical screening are encouraged to apply to become a SHINE SA approved external Preceptor to support participants to complete their clinical component in their workplace.
This course is suitable for registered nurses, midwives, doctors, Aboriginal Health Practitioners and enrolled nurses. The course is beneficial for those working in general practice or community health service and is intended for ongoing cervical screening practice.
